Kiowa County 4-H has hit its busy time of the year.

First, starting with Kiowa County 4-H Exhibit Day August 1. Judging began at 10:00 a.m. continuing to 1:00 p.m. There were 45 projects judged, with 39 of those projects being promoted to Colorado State Fair.

That evening, the Eads Senior Citizen Center was opened to the public. People were able to view all the projects that were displayed and judged. At 6:00 p.m., the evening program began. Fashion Revue kicked off the program, with three members participating - Alexa Nelson, a 4-H Senior; Aspen Nelson a 4-H Intermediate; and Marley Zimmerman a 4-H Junior. All three members were champions for their age division with Alexa Nelson taking home Fashion Revue Grand Champion and Aspen Nelson Fashion Revue Reserve Grand Champion.

The awards ceremony followed the Fashion Revue. There were four divisional Grand Champions and four divisional Reserve Grand Champions awarded -  “Other Sciences” Reserve Grand Champion Taygen Ferris (Self Determined) and Grand Champion Landon Zimmerman (Model Rocketry), “Natural Resources” Reserve Grand Champion Clayton Nelson (Leathercraft) and Grand Champion Landon Zimmerman, “Heritage Arts/Sewing” Reserve Grand Champion Mia Crow (Quilting) and Grand Champion Alexa Nelson (Quilting), and “Food Arts” Reserve Grand Champion Alexa Nelson (Cooking 201) and Grand Champion Tinley Lawrence.

The evening ended with the annual food auction, with Auctioneer Rob Morlan leading the way. Any food project members and the Cloverbud members are allowed and encouraged to bake and enter an item in the auction. Three percent of every sale goes to the Kiowa County 4-H Memorial Scholarship Fund, with the remainder distributed to the member themselves. This year, $62. 40 was raised for the scholarship fund, $2,217.60 went to the members, and $538 was donated to the Cloverbud Program, with a total of $2818 being raised that night!

About 80 people turned out for the Exhibit Day evening.

The Kiowa County Extension Office would like to thank our four project judges, four project Clerks, Rob Morlan, the Eads Senior Citizen Center, and the community for their continued support of the local youth!

County and Colorado State Fair results attached appear below. One member, Alexa Nelson, will be participating in the State Fashion Revue, and three members, Clayton Nelson, Gagie Rittgers, and Landon Zimmerman, are participating in the State 4-H Shoot.
