Lamar climbs to 106 Monday as heat builds across Prowers County
Lamar is in for a hot, dry run of days, with sunny skies and highs near 96 Friday and 95 Saturday giving way to 100 degrees Sunday and a sweltering 106 Monday, according to the National Weather Service in Pueblo.
Friday brings sunshine and a high near 96, with a north-northwest wind of 10 to 15 mph becoming northeast in the afternoon. Friday night will be partly cloudy with a low around 63 as northeast winds of 10 to 15 mph become light and variable after midnight.
"Drier and hotter for the weekend into Monday, with temperatures on the Plains near or in excess of 100 degrees," a meteorologist with the National Weather Service in Pueblo wrote in Friday's Area Forecast Discussion. Forecasters noted that Monday looks to be the warmest day and that "heat highlights may be needed for parts of the area."
Hottest day of the stretch arrives Monday

Monday stands out as the peak, with a forecast high near 106 in Lamar — the hottest reading of the period — alongside breezy south-southeast winds of 15 to 20 mph gusting to 30 mph.
No fire weather watches or warnings were in effect for Prowers County as of Friday morning, but the pairing of extreme heat, low humidity, and gusty winds Sunday night into Monday could elevate fire danger across the southeastern plains. Conditions turn more unsettled Tuesday, when a strong cold front arrives with increasing moisture and a return of thunderstorm chances.
