Emergency Medical Technician – Basic certificate offered this fall at Lamar Community College

The Lamar Community College Foundation recently secured $10,000 in funds from the Robert H. Rawlings Foundation to maintain scholarships for Emergency Medical Services students for the upcoming academic year.  These scholarships can help individuals interested in completing the Emergency Medical Technician-Basic certificate this fall.

Rawlings EMT Scholarships will range from $500 to $1,000, based on enrollment in fall and spring semester EMS courses.  Funds can be applied to tuition, fees, and book costs. 

Applicants are required to be a Colorado resident and qualify for in-state tuition. Ideal recipients would be residents of Southeast/Southern Colorado and be actively associated with an area fire/ambulance agency.  Scholarships are applied after the successful completion of coursework.

Residents of Baca, Bent, Cheyenne, Kiowa, and Prowers Counties are encouraged to apply for Colorado Opportunity Scholarship Initiative (COSI) scholarships as well.  Combining aid may allow EMT volunteers to accrue little or no debt while obtaining their certificates.  

Students may apply for both Rawlings and COSI scholarships utilizing LCC’s online scholarship application at www.lamarcc.edu/scholarships.

Fall classes start August 20.  Students are encouraged to apply for both scholarships as soon as possible.  COSI applications are due August 20 and Rawlings EMT scholarship applications are due August 27. 

Any individuals interested in helping others and providing a vital service to the community are encouraged to apply.  This is a great opportunity for current EMT volunteers and those working for Emergency Service agencies to gain valuable skills and knowledge that will directly benefit their work.  

EMS students must have a high school diploma or GED.  High school seniors are eligible to enroll in the course but must graduate and turn 18 years of age before they are eligible to sit for the National Registry of Emergency Medical Technicians Basic exam.
