March 2, 1934 - October 24, 2026

Marcia Marie Mueller was born to Albert Diedrich H. and Kathryn Bell (Osborne) Mueller on Friday March 2nd, 1934, at her family’s home in Clifton Kansas. She explained that the doctor, his nurse, and her mom and dad played bridge while awaiting her birth, and that they played so long, they were sure she would be born with bridge cards in her hands.

Marcia joined her older sister, Joanne, in running wild through multiple homes throughout western Kansas, until the addition of a brother, Milton William brought the family count to 5. The moves continued with her father's career as a Kansas County Agent. Marcia’s baby book was filled with accidents and injuries due to her curious and mischievous nature. As a young lady, she loved being in 4-H and once took a prize cake to state. She described her childhood as “happy” stating she usually got to do most of the things she wanted to do. (That did not change too much in her adult life)

The Mueller family moved to Cheyenne Wells, CO in 1949 where Marcia met a happy- go- lucky country boy named LeRoy Snyder. They graduated together from Cheyenne County High School in 1952. E. LeRoy Snyder and Marcia Marie Mueller were married on Nov. 23, 1951, and in about 2 weeks, her family will celebrate what would be their 75th wedding anniversary. This union produced 5 children; Mark Craig, Michael John. Montgomery David, Mitzi Lea, and Martin Quay.

These 5 kept Marcia and LeRoy pretty busy following multiple school sports and cheerleading, all while both held down full-time jobs. They almost never missed a sports event when their children were involved. Marcia worked for almost 40 years at the United States Department of Agriculture, Soil Conservation Service office, missing only 2 years from 1951 to 1993.

Mom and dad were senior class sponsors and loved to attend dances as young adults. They were known to travel far and wide to attend community dances and a special nickname was born from this. Marcia complained that dad loved to get into fights as much as he enjoyed dancing, so one night before entering a dancehall in Wild Horse, CO, she balled up a fist, reached out to grab LeRoy, tearing his t-shirt, and slugged him in the jaw. “Now can we go in and dance?” she asked. Dad gave her the nickname Slug and he called her Slug until his passing. Both were active in Eastern Star, and mom was a member of ESA (Epsilon Sigma Alpha) organization. She and LeRoy were members of the Cheyenne Wells Methodist Church and Marcia continued attending this church until her health would no longer allow it. Her life was filled with family, friendships, adventures, traditions, and a little bit of mischief.

Marcia loved family and family gatherings. She could never get enough of family birthdays, holidays, anniversaries, and other special occasions; and she was a driving force in the annual family “vacation” to Taylor Park, CO. LeRoy and Marcia visited Taylor Park almost annually for over 40 years, first with friends and then with their family. Some of her children have enjoyed that place for over 60 years. They eventually bought property above the Taylor River, and her grandchildren and great grandchildren use it today. Marcia helped give her family something priceless: a place to gather, a connection to one another, and memories that will live on long after we place her to rest next to dad. One granddaughter recently wrote, Grandma showed all of us the true meaning of family through her unconditional love and dedication. She loved this family fiercely and unapologetically through everything. Marcia always showed a special love and devotion to all of her grandchildren that continued with her great grandkids!

Marcia loved to entertain and be entertained. Her children became accustomed to the regular social gatherings with close friends after the football or basketball games or wrestling tournaments. She kept meticulous full team brackets at wrestling tournaments. Tournament directors were known to consult Marcia when there was a discrepancy in their record-keeping. Once when asked why she went to all that work, her response was, “It’s how I keep from being a super-nervous wrestler’s mother!” Marcia joined LeRoy in a love of card games and they spent countless hours playing pitch or hearts or bridge with close family friends and family.  After he passed, she continued to play cards and always made time for Bridge Club, playing in CW and Burlington. She was a regular at the Cheyenne Wells and Burlington Red Hatter’s gatherings.

Marcia loved to travel and was able to visit many countries with LeRoy. These trips continued with her close friends even after LeRoy passed away in 1998.

Marcia loved to shop!!!!, for her family and for herself. Her kids always started school with new clothes. She seemed to always know the perfect Christmas or birthday gift for her kids and their kids. She always displayed a sense for fashion, keeping up with the trends, and had the wardrobe to prove it. She could always find a reason to shop! Her shopping continued full bore with the advent of the internet and she had an extensive collection of Christmas trees, decorations, and ornaments. Mitzi, numerous times, had to threaten to tear up all the credit cards.

That independent spirit stayed with her throughout her 92 years. Marcia lived life on her terms, one friend of the family stating, “She was quite a lady!”

And after 33,839 days, her body could no longer keep pace with her spirited heart.

Shortly after she moved to Las Cruces, NM to live with her oldest, Mark, and his wife Mary, she made the decision to accept home hospice care. Marcia died peacefully in her sleep Saturday, October 24, 2026. After 92 years, 7 months, and 22 days she quietly slipped through the heavenly veil. We are sure she is dancing or playing cards with dad.

Marcia was preceded in death by her husband, LeRoy; her father and mother, Albert D. H. and Kathryn B. Mueller; her sister Joanne (Mueller) Rhea and brother Milton W. Mueller.

She is survived by her 5 children and their families, Mark and Mary Snyder of Las Cruces, NM; Mike and Beth Snyder of Tucson, AZ; Monte and Chris Snyder of Limon, CO; Mitzi and Mike Smith of Cheyenne Wells, CO; and Marty Snyder of Cheyenne Wells, CO; 12 grandchildren, and 28 great grandchildren; and a large host of relatives and friends.

Memorial contributions should be made to the Marcia Snyder Memorial Fund in c/o any Eastern Colorado Bank location.
