The Colorado Bureau of Investigation arrested Konnie Kelly Fries, 40, of Montrose, on September 30, 2026, following an investigation into allegations that she illegally distributed controlled substances to a 17-year-old female.

Fries was taken into custody on an arrest warrant issued by the 7th Judicial District. The investigation began in January 2026. At the time of the alleged offenses, Fries was employed as a counselor at Vista Charter School and as a contract co-responder with two law enforcement agencies.

Fries faces the following charges: Controlled Substance — Distribution to a Minor (Drug Felony/Class 1); Controlled Substance — Special Offender — Child Agent (Drug Felony/Class 1); Contributing to the Delinquency of a Minor (Misdemeanor/Class 1); Unauthorized Practice of Medicine (Misdemeanor/Class 2); and Child Abuse — Failure to Report Suspected (Misdemeanor/Class 2).

Vista Charter School placed Fries on administrative leave upon learning of the investigation and fully cooperated with law enforcement. Fries did not return to work or have further contact with students and was subsequently separated from employment. The Montrose Police Department immediately restricted Fries' access, terminated her involvement in the co-responder program, and also cooperated fully with the investigation.

Anyone who may have been supplied controlled substances by Fries or has relevant information is asked to call the CBI at 970-248-7500 or email Konnie_Fries_Tips@state.co.us.
