Obituary – Phillis Rose (Sorensen) Brown

Phillis Rose (Sorensen) Brown

January 19, 1922 - January 4, 2021

Phillis Rose Brown, age 98, formerly of Cambridge, Nebraska, passed away at the Holdrege Memorial Homes January 4, 2021.  She was a twin, born at home near Norman, Nebraska, January 19, 1922, to Christian and Agnes (Larsen) Sorensen.  Phillis attended country school and later graduated from Cambridge High School in 1940. 

February 7, 1945, she was united in marriage to Joseph Robert “Bob” Brown.  The couple made their home southeast of Cambridge.  Phillis was a dedicated farm wife, raising three children and working beside Bob.  He preceded her in death May 11, 2005.   

Phillis was a member of the St. John the Baptist Catholic Church, Alter Society.  She enjoyed oil painting, making many wedding cakes throughout the valley, and drop of the hat snacks/cakes for her kids at school.  She was the gopher for parts and other needs of the farm. 

She was preceded in death by her parents, Christian and Agnes; husband, Bob; brother, Arnold (Romaine) Sorensen; sister, Vera (Clarence) Hansen; and brother-in-law: Willard Williams. 

Phillis is survived by her daughter, Jeanie husband Kevin Allen of Aurora, Nebraska; sons, Joe (Janet Morin) of Hays, Kansas, and Jerry and wife Nancy of Cambridge; 13 grandchildren; 12 great grandchildren; one great great grandchild; and twin sister, Pauline Williams of Coal Hill, Arkansas. 

Rosary was recited prior to Mass of Christian Burial Thursday, January 6, 2021, with Father Ken Wehr officiating. Interment was in the St. John’s Catholic Cemetery of Cambridge.  

Memorials may be left in Phillis’ name to the St. John the Baptist Catholic Church.
