Esther Elizabeth McCoin (Kempf) was born in Alpena, South Dakota, December 12, 1925. She graduated high school in May 1943 and entered the Dakota Weslyn Nursing Program.
During World War II, Esther served in the Cadet Nurse Corps until Spring 1946. She married Don McCoin in August 1947. Over the next eight years, they had three children, Linda, Tracy, and Joel.
In 1972, Don and Esther moved to Eads. Esther worked at Weisbrod Hospital from 1972 to 1980 and then as the Kiowa County Nurse until 1990.

Esther enjoyed seeing families and children at the clinic, and providing care for families in their homes when they were not able to make into town for healthcare.
Esther was an active member of the United Methodist church, and a longtime volunteer at the Kiowa County Public Library District, the Salvation Army, and Senior Citizen Center.
Esther is survived by her husband, Don; son, Joel (Barbara); three grandchildren; and three great grandchildren.
Esther is preceded in death by her parents; four siblings; two children; and one grandchild.
Graveside Funeral Services were held March 26, 2025, at the Eads Cemetery with Pastor Mark Imel and Gail Voss officiating. A reception followed at Prairie Pines Assisted Living Community.
