Floyd Eugene (Gene) Vick was born February 13,1938, near Boyero to Rosamund Elizabeth (Bentley) Vick and Floyd Edward Vick. He was greeted by his older sister, Shirley. Three years later, his sister, Carolyn, arrived, then his brother, Darrell, which completed the family.

Gene attended grade school in the one room schoolhouse at Clifford. He then went into town to Hugo Public School where he graduated high school in May 1956.

Gene had an extreme love for airplanes, and wasted no time to enlist in the United States Air Force June 6, 1956. He spent the first 18 months at Buckley Air Force Base in Colorado.

When he received his orders that he was to be sent to Bentwaters Air Force Base in Suffolk, England, he and his sweetheart, Marsha Harris of Karval, were married December 21, 1957. While they were stationed in England they made everlasting friendships. They were also blessed with two sons, Kelby Eugene on February 14, 1959, and Anthony (Tony) Wayne on August 13, 1960.

Upon Gene’s discharge January 1, 1961, they returned to the US and settled into ranch life near Hugo. Their third son, Leon Scott, was born in Hugo July 12, 1962. Years of hard work with happiness followed, until Marsha was diagnosed with terminal cancer. After a very hard fight, she passed away June 22, 1979.

Life moved on. Then one night at a dance, Brenda Dutro introduced Gene to Judy Johnson. They were married May 23, 1980. Judy had two young daughters, Loreen Renee and Sherry RaeAnn. Life continued with love and challenges.

In 1996 Gene was elected Commissioner, which he took very seriously. He was instrumental in the building of the Ellis Allen Events Center and the grandstand awning at the Lincoln County Fairgrounds. He was very proud of this accomplishment.

In 2009, Gene had open heart surgery, which lead to life changes and his retirement. January 2026 was tough. It involved needing oxygen 24/7. February 18, 2026, Gene entered the Hugo Hospital and passed away February 20, 2026.

He was proceeded in death by his wife, Marsha, and his parents, Floyd and Elizabeth Vick.

He is survived by his wife Judy of Hugo; sons; Kelby of Arriba, Tony (Stacy) of Hugo, and Leon (Taleen) of Byers; daughters, Loreen Hughes of Aurora, and Sherry Kyle of Parker; grandchildren, Logan Vick, Celie (Kodie) Jang, Wyatt Vick, KaCee Kyle, Rilee Kyle, Even Hughes, and Glenn Hughes; brother, Darrell (Barb) Vick of Montrose, and an extended family of nieces and nephews.
