Gary L. Bohrer

March 14, 1940 — July 15, 2023

Gary Leon Bohrer, 83, of Ramah, passed away July 15, 2023 at home.  Gary was born March 14, 1940, at Las Animas to Raymond and Lena Bohrer. 

He joined the National Guard at an early age and served three years. After his service, he moved to Simla, where he became a welder for Nichols Tillage Tools until the company moved. He worked evenings and weekends at the Smithfield Angus Ranch. Gary was a Certified Ferrier.

Gary married Harelita Zentz June 15, 1963. They made their home in Ramah. Gary served on the town council and was Mayor of Ramah for more than 10 years. Gary retired in 2004 from the El Paso County Department of Transportation, where he was a truck driver.

Gary enjoyed raising and breaking horses, riding bulls at the county fair, traveling, camping, fishing, and hunting. He was thrilled when his grandson, Rusty, and his wife, Shayna, made him a great grandfather to triplet daughters, Ava, Becca, and Layna.

Gary is survived by his wife of 60 years, Harelita; son, Kelly and his wife Brenda and their sons Mathew and Tyler and his wife Mar and their son Nolan; grandson Rusty and his wife Shayna and their daughters Ava, Becca, and Layna; brother, Larry and his wife Kandy; sister, Nita Hess; brother, Ronnie and his wife Bonita; and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by son, Gregory; parents, Ray and Lena Bohrer; parents-in-laws, Harold and Dorees Zentz; and sister-in-law, Evelyn Spaulding.

A memorial service will be held July 22, 2023, at 10:30 a.m. at Liberty Plains Baptist Church in Simla.
