Obituary - Janis "Jan" Diane Jones

Janis "Jan" Diane Jones
(August 13, 1940 - November 5, 2017)
Janis Diane “Jan” Jones was born on August 13, 1940 in Noonan, ND to Ernest and Esther Fagerland Gochanour. Jan passed away on November 5, 2017.

As a child, Jan grew up in North Dakota attending school through the 10th grade. In 1956, Jan married Harry Olson. Harry was a member of the United States Air Force which caused them to move often. In 1958, Harry died in a tragic airplane accident in the remote mountains of Alaska. The airplane he was in remains on that mountain to this day because they were unable to retrieve it. Throughout Jan’s lifetime, she lived in several states like Montana, Mississippi, North Dakota, Wyoming, Colorado and Oklahoma.

In 1984, Jan moved to Eads, Colorado where she purchased the June Bug Bar and changed the name to Jan’s Bar. Jan married Lloyd “Jonsey” Jones in 1989 and they operated the bar until 1994 when they sold it. Upon her retirement, Jan and Jonesy moved to McBride, Oklahoma. Jonesy died in 2010 and Jan once again returned to Eads in 2011 to be closer to her girls. After returning to Eads, Jan became friends with John Spell from Springfield, CO. The two of them spent their winters in Oklahoma and their summers camping in the mountains.

Jan is remembered for being quick witted, stubborn and finding the good in everyone. She loved her flowers and fairies and had many interests and hobbies to include fishing, gardening, crocheting, doing puzzles, playing games, playing pool, making buns and having a drink on the patio. Jan would like to be remembered as someone who loved to have fun. She would say “Don’t mourn my passing, instead celebrate my life and make a toast in my memory”.

Janis is survived by her 3 children: Wade Olson of Kingston, OK, Lana (Cecil) Coffman of Trinidad, CO and Diane Crow of Lamar, CO. She is also survived by her grandchildren: Joshua (Amber) Crow, Brison Crow, Jordan Coffman, and Juanita Cincotta and her great grandchild Legend Cincotta. Her companion John Spell also survives her as well as her step-children: Gary (Debbie) Jones, Linda (Don) Grindle, Diane (Richard) Rockwell, Richard Jones and Raymond Jones as well as by numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, step grandchildren and friends and old bar patrons and many others who called her mom and grandma Jan.

Jan was preceded in death by her parents, two husbands: Harry Olson and Lloyd “Jonesy” Jones, her sister Alvera Bilstad and stepson Lloyd Dave Jones.

A reception honoring and celebrating the life of Janis Jones was held Saturday November 11, 2017, at the Cobblestone Inn in Eads.

Memorial contributions can be sent to the Eads Summer Baseball or Lamar Area Hospice in c/o Diane Crow; 10 Prairie Dr.; Lamar, CO 81052.
