Jeffery Scott Colvin was born March 27, 1959 in Eads at Weisbrod Hospital to William V. and Joyce M. Colvin.

Jeff grew up on the Rush Creek Ranch and, as a kid, he helped his Dad with ranch chores, cattle, and branding for neighboring ranches. In 1970, they moved to the ranch headquarters six miles west of Kit Carson. In 1972, they moved into Kit Carson, which he was not happy about. In 1973, they moved to the Sally Ranch North of Kit Carson, which the family really liked.

Jeff graduated in 1979 from Kit Carson High School, and worked at whatever he could to earn a wage: farming, building fence, cattle work, and helping with the family ranch. The drought hit the area in 2012, which forced the sale of most of the ranch cows, only keeping a few head. Jeff then took over managing the ranch after his Dad passed in 2013. The rain came shortly after that, and he started to buy more cows. He was able to build back the herd to 100 cows by 2020, but the drought came again, and once again had to sell the cows to hold the ranch together.

Jeff always enjoyed working with his hands - all types of metal work, anything he could bend and shape. He used horseshoes to make benches, tables, welding, drawing, and designing, but his love was the ranch.

He taught himself to make bits and spurs, along with silver work, all his own original designs. He most enjoyed making key chains, buckles, earrings, and whatever anyone might ask him for. He carried around a set of small vice grips with the start of each new piece and worked it until he felt it was just right. Jeff was blessed with the love for ranching and his love for designing and creating with metal.

Anyone that was lucky enough to have Jeff Colvin as a friend was indeed fortunate. He was loyal to his friends and neighbors and was a loving caretaker to his land and livestock. His quick wit, his stories and his ability to connect with others will be the trademark of memories that is remembered when thinking about Jeff Colvin.

Jeffery Scott Colvin passed away in Pueblo March 17, 2026 following a brief illness.

He is survived by his mother, Joyce, and by his sisters, Becky, Tina, and Cathy.

Jeff was preceded in death by his father, William “Bill” Colvin.
