It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Jerry Keith Pursley, a father, grandfather, brother, uncle, and a respected member of his community. Jerry passed away peacefully at his home in Las Animas December 18, 2025, at the age of 78.

Born January 16, 1947, in Flagler to Earl Homer Pursley and Viola Alma (Short) Pursley, Jerry’s roots ran deep in the rural landscapes of Colorado. From an early age, he learned the value of hard work and the importance of family.

Raised on a farm, Jerry was no stranger to the land. At just 10 years old, his father gifted him his first heifer - a gift that marked the beginning of a lifelong passion for raising cattle. Whether it was helping to milk cows, selling cream, or managing livestock, Jerry was committed to farm life from the start, and that commitment would stay with him throughout his years.

Jerry was also a proud student at Wild Horse (K-8) and Kit Carson (high school), where he not only excelled academically but also showcased his talents on the football field and wrestling mat. His love for sports and dirt biking were short-lived hobbies.

After high school, Jerry attended Colorado State University, where he earned a master's degree, furthering his education and establishing the foundation for his future.

Though Jerry’s connection to the land remained central to his life, his professional journey led him to a career in banking, where he became a trusted advisor and friend to many. He devoted countless hours to serving his community and helping others build their financial futures. His contributions to the community, both personal and professional, left an indelible mark on the lives of those around him.

Jerry was preceded in death by his parents, Earl and Viola, and his brother, Don.

He will be missed dearly by all who knew him, but his memory will live on in the stories shared, the lessons taught and the love he freely gave.

A graveside memorial service to celebrate Jerry’s life was held January 16, 2026, at Kit Carson Cemetery in Kit Carson with Pastor Rod Coulter officiating.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that you plant a tree in his memory.

Arrangements were under the direction Valley Funeral and Cremation.
