Ruth Kathryn Homan, 97, passed away January 11, 2019, at the Peaks Care Center.
She was born May 24, 1921, in Crook, Colorado, to Daniel R. and Mary Etta Gross. Ruth grew up on the plains of Eastern Colorado near Kit Carson. She attended a rural school for her first eight years of schooling. Then she was bused into Cheyenne Wells, where she attended one year.
June 12, 1937, she married Leroy Homan in Sharon Springs, Kansas, and they had homes in Kit Carson, Cheyenne Wells, and Crook, and then raised their three boys, JR, Ron and Dean in Eads.
Following Leroy’s death on April 5, 1965, Ruth returned to school and earned her high school diploma by GED in June of 1967. She attended Northeast Junior College in Sterling for training as a Licensed Practical Nurse, graduating in September of 1968 and received her Board Certification in January of 1969.
Ruth worked as a nurse in the Sterling hospital from 1969 to 1972, and at Frasier Meadows Manor in Boulder from 1973 to 1975. She moved to Longmont in 1983.
Ruth was a member of Christian Promise Fellowship Church. One of her talents was crocheting. She enjoyed music and sang in the Hygiene United Methodist church choir for over 25 years. She also enjoyed square dancing and ceramics.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Leroy; two sons, Ronald Eugeneand spouse, Lloyd Dean and spouse; one granddaughter; six brothers and three sisters.
Ruth is survived by her son JR Homan (Norma), eight grandchildren, 21 great grandchildren and four great-great grandchildren.
Memorial services were held February 2, 2019, at CENTRALongmont Presbyterian Church. Cremation was entrusted to Ahlberg Funeral Chapel and Crematory.
