A Life Worth Living

Sharon Diane McEwen,79, passed from this life June 5, 2025, in Burlington. She was born July 16, 1945, in Denver to Laverne and Cora Buck of Eads.

Sharon grew up in Eads and went to Eads High School.

She married the first love of her life, Floyd McEwen, April 28, 1967. They lived in Wild Horse and Wray until in 1970 when they purchased the Troue Farm and Ranch southeast of Kit Carson. They later also purchased Kleibocker place just to the north.  They made their home and worked side by side in the ranching business until Floyd passed in May of 1994. Sharon was a hard worker, and very tough. She helped Floyd work cattle, build fence, pull calves, and participated in all aspects of ranch life. Together they raised three children, Johnna, Todd, and JD.

She was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Kit Carson, where she taught Sunday School and was confirmed.

After Floyd passed, she sold the ranch, and several years later, while working in Burlington, met the second love of her life, Rod Bolejack. She moved to Burlington to be with Rod, and for 22 years they made their home in Burlington.

Sharon loved helping other people make things beautiful, and while in Burlington, she started her landscaping and decorating business: Outside In. Sharon loved flowers, and had an amazing green thumb. She more than once won the Burlington Yard of the Month award. She was an excellent cook, and the family always looked forward to her holiday meals, especially her fudge and divinity.

Sharon loved her family more than anything. She was fiercely loyal to her children and grandchildren, and would go to any lengths necessary to stand up for them and support them.

She is survived by Rod Bolejack of the home; children, Johnna Whitney (Steve Miller) of Lubbock, Texas, Todd McEwen of Wheeler, Texas, JD McEwen (Heidi) of Tucumcari, New Mexico, and infant daughter, Shannon McEwen (deceased); grandchildren, Chase Whitney (Maegen), Jess Whitney (Asya), Bill McEwen, Patrick McEwen, Baily McEwen, and Piper McEwen; great grandchildren, Walker Whitney and Wyatt Whitney; brother, Fred Buck; sister, Linda Lafferty; and Rod’s son, Rusty Bolejack and family of Overland Park, Kansas.

She is preceded in death by her husband, Floyd McEwen; parents, Laverne Buck and Cora Buck (Corky); infant daughter, Shannon McEwen; and brother, Bill Buck.

Arrangements are under the direction of Brown Funeral Home.
