Stephen Perry Gearhart

January 6, 1947 - September 21, 2023

Perry Gearhart, 76, of La Junta passed away September 21, 2023, at his home. Perry was born January 6, 1947, in La Junta to Carl C. & Shirley M. (Wilkus) Gearhart.

After graduating from high school in La Junta, Perry joined the U.S. Army, serving 1967 and 1968 in Germany during the Vietnam era. After returning home from service, he worked for NIBCO in La Junta, and later worked for the Santa Fe Railroad out of La Junta for 31 years before retiring in 2001.

Perry enjoyed fishing, hunting, trap shooting, target shooting, and reloading ammunition. He was an avid reader. Perry was a lifetime member of the NRA and the La Junta Rifle Club.

He very much enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren.

Perry is survived by his wife, Sally (Minck) Gearhart of the La Junta home; son, David Gearhart of La Junta; brothers, Rodney (Carolyn) Gearhart of La Junta, Vince (La Nette) Gearhart of Lamar, and Stan Gearhart of La Junta; sister, Cyndi (Paul) Bersagel of Pueblo; and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Perry was preceded in death by his parents and son, Jeremiah Gearhart.

Memorial services will be held, Saturday, October 21, 2023, at 11:00 a.m. at Peacock Memorial Chapel with Robert Fowler officiating. Cremation has taken place.
