Stephen Wayne Monks, of Limon, passed August 2, 2025. Steve was born at Penrose Hospital in Colorado Springs August 23, 1953, to Bill and Gladys (Arrowood) Monks.

From an early age, he learned to successfully raise cattle on the family ranch. Steve was a gifted mechanic, rebuilding a Model T for the first time at the tender age of ten. He also showed a keen interest in airplanes, and drove to Denver on weekends until he obtained his pilot’s license before he graduated from high school. His passion for flying continued throughout his life.

Steve met the love of his life, Teresa Lohmann, and married her in 1976. Over the years, they welcomed two sons, Matthew and Zachery, who also worked and helped build their family ranch.

Steve co-owned a concrete company with his brother, Larry.

Steve, with all of his other responsibilities, then earned a law degree from Denver University School of Law and opened a family law practice in Limon. In addition, he served as Kit Carson County prosecutor for several years.

Steve was preceded in death by his parents.

He is survived by his loving wife, Teresa; sons, Matt (Jen) and Zach; grandchildren, Ava and Quinn; brother, Larry (Casey); mother-in-law, Bev Gossett (Tom); sisters-in-law, Becky Frank (Tim) and Tammy Dobler; several nieces and nephews; and loyal friend, Ian Christie.

A tribute to Steve will be held August 23, 2025 at 1:00 p.m. at the Limon Municipal Airport.

Arrangements under the direction of Love Funeral Home.
