- Trenton & Trice Watts from Eads have qualified for the College National Finals Rodeo.
- Kirk Stegman from Lamar was Top Firefighter for 2009 in the Firefighter Olympics held in Hasty.

- Plans are being finalized for the State Babe Ruth 14–15-year-old tournament to be held in Eads July 22-26.
- Nursing Home Notes- Nellie Nickert: Wednesday is craft day. Tina struck on a project that took the eye of several - painting butterflies that the sun will shine through.
40 Years Ago - June 15, 1984
- The Weisbrod Memorial County Hospital and Nursing Home will have a carnival and auction June 30. All proceeds will go in the fund to purchase new mattresses for the nursing home.
- Kiowa County farmers and ranchers, Burl and Cathy Scherler, were selected as Colorado nominees for the National Conservation Award. Ten national finalists will be selected in September.

- Dennis Frazee is now a Doctor of Veterinary Medicine, and will go into practice with Dr. R.J. Nelson in La Junta in July.
