State of Colorado seeks expert volunteers to join the Geologic Storage Stewardship Enterprise Board
The Colorado Department of Natural Resources welcomes interested individuals to apply to join the Geologic Storage Stewardship Enterprise Board. Governor Polis recently signed HB25-1165: Geologic Storage Enterprise & Geothermal Resources that continues Colorado’s efforts to enable effective and safe carbon sequestration. The legislation creates a process for long-term stewardship of carbon dioxide (CO2) storage sites through a dedicated fund funded by CO2 storage operators. A volunteer Board administers the Enterprise.
The Enterprise ensures carbon storage facilities are safe long into the future. It also advances our state’s climate goals, relieves state taxpayers of a burden to manage these sites, and provides certainty to operators.
The Geologic Storage Stewardship Enterprise Board will consist of the following five members:
- The Chair of the Colorado Energy and Carbon Management Commission (ECMC);
- The ECMC Director or her designee;
- An individual with substantial experience in geologic storage, preferably with an actuarial science background as related to evaluating the long-term risk of geologic storage facilities;
- An individual with formal training or substantial experience in environmental protection, public health, or other relevant fields; and
- An individual with formal training or substantial experience in wellbore monitoring, long-term stewardship, or other relevant technical fields
Board members will each serve terms of three years, except that in the initial term, the individual with substantial experience in geologic storage will serve one year and the individual with experience in environmental protection or public health will serve for two years.
