MAPS READY FOR PICKUP
Operators who have many farms received an email this week telling them their acreage reporting maps were ready to be picked up in Kiowa County. Producers can take the maps home and complete them with the required information or acreage reporting labels will be provided. The offices know there are many operators who are behind on getting crops planted due to the moisture we have been receiving, (that was not a complaint).
SPRING ACREAGE REPORTING
Hard to believe but that time is upon us once again and offices are gearing up for spring acreage reporting. Nearly every FSA Office in the state is dealing with staffing issues due to the deferred resignation that many employees took advantage of earlier this year. Kiowa and Cheyenne counties are no exception, each office is not fully staffed. If you haven’t done so, call the Kiowa County office and ask if your maps are ready to be picked up. In Cheyenne County, if you haven’t received a call from the office to schedule an appointment, please call the office and schedule one.
July 15th is the deadline for acreage reporting and it’s going to take the cooperation of the producer, FSA staff and crop insurance agent to make the deadline.
REMINDER: Prevent plant claims must be filed with the county FSA office within 15 days of the final plant date of the commodity.
FSA Outlines Marketing Assistance Loans
Marketing Assistance Loans (MALs) for harvested wheat, feed grains, soybeans, and other oilseeds, pulse crops, rice, peanuts, cotton, wool and honey are available through FSA. MALs provide you with interim financing after harvest to help you meet cash flow needs without having to sell your commodities when market prices are typically at harvest-time lows. A producer who is eligible to obtain a loan, but agrees to forgo the loan, may obtain an LDP if such a payment is available.
Marketing loan gains (MLGs) and loan deficiency payments (LDPs) are no longer subject to payment limitations, actively engaged in farming and cash-rent tenant rules.
Adjusted Gross Income (AGI) provisions state that if your total applicable three-year average AGI exceeds $900,000, then you’re not eligible to receive an MLG or LDP. You must have a valid CCC-941 on file to earn a market gain of LDP. The AGI does not apply to MALs redeemed with commodity certificate exchange.
Loan rates on wheat in Kiowa and Cheyenne is $3.39 bushel. Loans rates are determined by physical location of stored grain. MAL’s are 9 month loans, interest rate is determined by the month of loan disbursed.
