20th annual Sand Creek Massacre spiritual healing run/walk set

The 20th Annual Sand Creek Massacre Spiritual Healing Run begins at 7:00 a.m. Thursday, November 22, 2018, at the Sand Creek Massacre National Historic Site. The run/walk is an annual event sponsored by the Northern Cheyenne Tribe of Montana, the Northern Arapaho Tribe of Wyoming, and the Cheyenne and Arapaho Tribes (Oklahoma) to honor the victims and survivors of the Sand Creek Massacre and for healing of ancestral homelands. This year’s event will mark the 154th year since the Sand Creek Massacre.  

Thursday, November 22

  • 7:00 a.m.          Sunrise Ceremonies on Monument Hill Overlook, Sand Creek Massacre NHS (55411 County Road W, Chivington, CO 81036) Kiowa County, CO
  • 10:00 a.m.        20th Annual Spiritual Healing Run/Walk will commence, Monument Hill Overlook
  • 5:00 p.m.          Dinner for run participants and community, Kiowa County Community Bldg, (located at the Kiowa County Fairgrounds, 15103 Highway 287, Eads, CO)

Friday, November 23

  • 7:00 a.m.          The “Healing Run” continues to Limon, CO, location to be announced.

Saturday, November 24

  • 7:00 a.m.          Continue “Healing Run” to Denver, CO, location to be announced.
  • 6:00 p.m.          Pow-wow at Sheraton Downtown Denver (1550 Court PL, Denver, CO 80202)

Sunday, November 25

  • 7:00 a.m.          Opening Ceremony
  • 8:00 a.m.          Ceremony at Riverside Cemetery (5201 Brighton Boulevard, Denver) to Honor Captain Silas S. Soule, Company D, 1stRegiment Cavalry, Colorado (U.S.) Volunteers and Lieutenant Joseph A. Cramer, Company K, 1stRegiment Cavalry, Colorado (U.S.) Volunteers.
  • 9:00 a.m.          Continue “Healing Run” to 15th& Arapaho Avenue, Denver. Presentation at 15th& Arapaho Avenue: Captain Silas S. Soule Memorial Plaque. Immediately following this presentation, all participants will walk last mile to the Colorado State Capitol Building, Denver.
  • 11:00 a.m.        Presentation at the west lawn of the Colorado State Capitol Building (200 east Colfax Ave.), Denver.
  • 12:00 p.m.        Conclusion of the 20thAnnual Spiritual Healing Run
  • Lunch for Participants and their families, History Colorado (1200 Broadway), Denver.
