“Let us not grow weary of doing good. For at the proper time we will reap a harvest if we do not give up.” Galatians 6:9
Trista Tuttle of the local County Elegance shop was busier than usual last week since she rented out tuxedos and created lovely corsages and boutonnieres for the Eads prom. Trista arranges perfectly beautiful floral arrangements and corsages.
Gail Voss, our Eads Senior Citizen Center Director, went to put away some of our dishes from our senior dinner last week and was so pleased to see the really beautiful prom decorations that were already in place. The theme this year was “Hollywood.” Saturday evening, some couples came to Weisbrod Health for us to see their beautiful and handsome attire. We were happy and excited to see them. We knew most of the girls but the young men were mostly from other schools. We thought they were gorgeous, so wholesome, and showed such good manners!
Thank you to the teachers and parents who took the time and caring to sponsor and plan for decorations to help make this special time that so many youth nervously look forward to. It is such an important time for teenagers. Some of them tell me that they wish they had had some lessons on how to do ballroom style dancing.
We were blessed in the 1950s to 80s to have regular 4-H monthly dances to get to learn dance styles. That was mainly because we had extension agent Bruce Whitmore, who taught us and called square dances. Hint parents: please find a way to teach our youth ballroom dances. Donna (Fell) Eaton, 94, who lives here in Weisbrod, told me that in college at UNC-Greeley, they taught her in her classes how to teach children to dance. Sometimes I say out loud that “I look forward to dancing again in Heaven,” as I did before I was age 12 and had polio. I just want youths to be able to Dance Now if they want to.
Marla Darnell and Brenda Leon served yummy pizzas from Godfather’s and the C-Store on the patio Friday at noon. We decided it was a little chilly outside, so we moved inside for Johnny Leon’s concert at 1:00 p.m. Tasha Brooks of Des Moines, Iowa, who is an employee in use of computers for another week, sang several Dolly Parton songs. Kailee Lenox and Brezelda Garcia also sang for us. We look forward to when John can come from Tribune, Kansas, again.
A huge thank you to Reese Barnett and Aubrey Mitchek, Eads High School ninth grade students, for wanting to do something to help our school. They decided that one of the most important needs of the campus was to replace the aging football and baseball scoreboard. After conferring with Mr. Bohlander, Mr. Eder, and Holly Mitchek, they visited with Sean Lening of GN Bank. Mr. Lening was so impressed with their presentation that he granted the whole request.
Did you see the pretty cover on the Kiowa County Press last week? Jeanne Sorensen took that photo of those wild summer yellow roses blooming on the morning of April 21 across from the Town Hall. I vividly remember when these roses would just be beginning to bloom at the time of my brother, Virgil Allen’s, birthday on June 2! Climate change?

Remember that May 5 is the Eads Future Farmers of America banquet and awards program, and also the Rent-a-Hand for student workers at your homes or businesses. Justin Lenox works long hours with these students. Let’s support him and the students.
Pamela Johnston really did appreciate Amy Barton for pushing her in a wheelchair to watch the Eads vs. Crowley baseball game. Pam had a good time and especially to see her “adopted” grandson on the Crowley team. They stopped by the school to pick up Amy’s four children on the way back to Weisbrod Health.
Brenda Leon took the two sisters to the Alta Vista School concert rehearsal Thursday afternoon. They said it was so delightful. The school principal, Talara Coen, was so pleased to have her mother, Vera Hamons, and her aunt, Donna Eaton, come to see her students. These ladies are often blessed by their niece, Monica Fell Uhland, who sends them flower arrangements and comes to visit them.
The photos of the Kit Carson Future Farmers of Americal chapter banquet and awards program had such pretty and impressive decorations. They had a Rent-a-Hand auction that night also.
Taya Jagers and her son, Corbin, drove to Montrose to visit and attend the prom. Corbin met Madison through their involvement in FFA.
Jennifer (James) Sawyer, formerly of Eads, has been a lawyer in the Dallas County District Court in Texas for many years. She recently received a big beautiful marble type wall plaque before moving on to her next adventure.
Jody (Johnson) Buck, Tonya Everist, and Gay Everist celebrated Gay’s 60th birthday in Texas.
Amy Morgan Gourley, formerly of Eads, and her husband, Billy Gourley, formerly of Springfield, now of Missouri, recently celebrated their 39th wedding anniversary in their home state.
Jerry Weber is so happy for his son, Quinton, who was recently married to Madison. The young couple lives in Sheridan Lake where he is a businessman.
Lynette Colvin, who is an attractive beautician from Wiley, comes frequently to give her mother-in-law’s sister a pretty hair-do for the week.
Enjoy the weeks ahead for the remaining school year days.
