Ag stats: April 2022 mountain states chickens and eggs highlights
COLORADO
Colorado egg production during April 2022 was 126.3 million eggs, up 1 percent from March 2022 but down 2 percent from April 2021 production, according to the Mountain Regional Field Office of the National Agricultural Statistics Service, USDA. The average number of layers on hand in April 2022 was 4.98 million, down less than 1 percent from March 2022 and down 4 percent from last year. Eggs per 100 layers were 2,539 eggs, up 3 percent from last year.
UTAH
Utah egg production during April 2022 was 150.7 million eggs, down 10 percent from March 2022 but up 6 percent from April 2021 production, according to the Mountain Regional Field Office of the National Agricultural Statistics Service, USDA. The average number of layers on hand during April 2022 was 5.80 million, down 12 percent from March 2022 but up 1 percent from last year. Eggs per 100 layers were 2,598 eggs, up 5 percent from last year.
UNITED STATES
United States egg production totaled 8.82 billion during April 2022, down 3 percent from last year. Production included 7.55 billion table eggs, and 1.27 billion hatching eggs, of which 1.18 billion were broiler-type and 93.8 million were eggtype. The average number of layers during April 2022 totaled 369 million, down 5 percent from last year. April egg production per 100 layers was 2,389 eggs, up 2 percent from April 2021.
Total layers in the United States on May 1, 2022 totaled 366 million, down 6 percent from last year. The 366 million layers consisted of 300 million layers producing table or market type eggs, 62.5 million layers producing broiler-type hatching eggs, and 3.63 million layers producing egg-type hatching eggs. Rate of lay per day on May 1, 2022, averaged 79.4 eggs per 100 layers, up 2 percent from May 1, 2021.
Egg-type chicks hatched during April 2022 totaled 50.8 million, down 15 percent from April 2021. Eggs in incubators totaled 52.5 million on May 1, 2022, down 3 percent from a year ago.
Domestic placements of egg-type pullet chicks for future hatchery supply flocks by leading breeders totaled 208 thousand during April 2022, down 22 percent from April 2021.
Broiler-type chicks hatched during April 2022 totaled 822 million, up slightly from April 2021. Eggs in incubators totaled 721 million on May 1, 2022, up slightly from a year ago.
Leading breeders placed 8.25 million broiler-type pullet chicks for future domestic hatchery supply flocks during April 2022, up 2 percent from April 2021.
