COLORADO 

The number of cattle and calves on feed for the slaughter market in Colorado feedlots with a capacity of 1,000 head or larger was estimated at 1,060,000 head as of June 1, 2019. This latest inventory is the same as last month, but 12 percent above the June 1, 2018 inventory. Cattle feeders with 1,000 head or larger capacity marketed an estimated 150,000 head of fed cattle during May 2019, 9 percent below last month but no change from the May 2018 marketings. An estimated 160,000 cattle and calves were placed on feed during May 2019, 6 percent below a month ago and 6 percent below the May 2018 placements. Of the number placed in May, 16 percent weighed less than 600 pounds, 13 percent weighed from 600 to 699 pounds, 22 percent weighed from 700 to 799 pounds, 28 percent weighed 800 to 899 pounds and 22 percent weighed 900 pounds or greater. Other disappearance for May 2019 is estimated at 10,000 head, up 5,000 head from last month, but no change from last year. 

UNITED STATES 

Cattle and calves on feed for the slaughter market in the United States for feedlots with capacity of 1,000 or more head totaled 11.7 million head on June 1, 2019. The inventory was 2 percent above June 1, 2018. This is the highest June 1 inventory since the series began in 1996. Placements in feedlots during May totaled 2.06 million head, 3 percent below 2018. Net placements were 1.99 million head. During May, placements of cattle and calves weighing less than 600 pounds were 370,000 head, 600-699 pounds were 305,000 head, 700-799 pounds were 500,000 head, 800-899 pounds were 539,000 head, 900-999 pounds were 235,000 head, and 1,000 pounds and greater were 115,000 head. Marketings of fed cattle during May totaled 2.07 million head, 1 percent above 2018. Other disappearance totaled 72,000 head during May, 1 percent below 2018.
