Ag stats: January 2022 mountain states chickens and eggs report

COLORADO

Colorado egg production during January 2022 was 128.3 million eggs, up 3 percent from December 2021 but down 14 percent from January 2021 production, according to the Mountain Regional Field Office of the National Agricultural Statistics Service, USDA. The average number of layers on hand in January 2022 was 4.89 million, up less than one-half percent from December 2021 but down 14 percent from last year.

Eggs per 100 layers were 2,622 eggs, up less than one-half percent from last year.

UTAH

Utah egg production during January 2022 was 162.5 million eggs, down 2 percent from December 2021 but up18 percent from January 2021 production, according to the Mountain Regional Field Office of the National Agricultural Statistics Service, USDA. The average number of layers on hand during January 2022 was 6.29 million, up 1 percent from December 2021 and up 16 percent from last year.

Eggs per 100 layers were 2,585 eggs, up 2 percent from last year.

UNITED STATES

United States egg production totaled 9.59 billion during January 2022, up 1 percent from last year. Production included 8.29 billion table eggs, and 1.31 billion hatching eggs, of which 1.22 billion were broiler-type and 89.7 million were eggtype. The total number of layers during January 2022 averaged 391 million, down 1 percent from last year. January egg production per 100 layers was 2,452 eggs, up 2 percent from January 2021.

All layers in the United States on February 1, 2022 totaled 390 million, down 1 percent from last year. The 390 million layers consisted of 323 million layers producing table or market type eggs, 63.6 million layers producing broiler-type hatching eggs, and 3.56 million layers producing egg-type hatching eggs. Rate of lay per day on February 1, 2022, averaged 78.9 eggs per 100 layers, up 2 percent from February 1, 2021.

Egg-type chicks hatched during January 2022 totaled 48.6 million, down 5 percent from January 2021. Eggs in incubators totaled 50.7 million on February 1, 2022, down 5 percent from a year ago.

Domestic placements of egg-type pullet chicks for future hatchery supply flocks by leading breeders totaled 261 thousand during January 2022, down 6 percent from January 2021.

Broiler-type chicks hatched during January 2022 totaled 840 million, down 1 percent from January 2021. Eggs in incubators totaled 716 million on February 1, 2022, up 2 percent from a year ago.

Leading breeders placed 8.29 million broiler-type pullet chicks for future domestic hatchery supply flocks during January 2022, up 2 percent from January 2021.
