Ag stats: Kansas crop progress and condition report – week ending October 17, 2021
For the week ending October 17, 2021, there were 4.5 days suitable for fieldwork, according to the USDA's National Agricultural Statistics Service. Topsoil moisture supplies rated 12% very short, 25% short, 56% adequate, and 7% surplus. Subsoil moisture supplies rated 12% very short, 31% short, 54% adequate, and 3% surplus.
Field Crops Report: Winter wheat planted was 75%, behind 83% last year, but ahead of 68% for the five-year average. Emerged was 47%, behind 59% last year, but near 46% average.
Corn harvested was 75%, near 74% last year, and ahead of 66% average.
Soybean condition rated 4% very poor, 10% poor, 30% fair, 49% good, and 7% excellent. Soybeans dropping leaves was 90%, near 94% last year and 91% average. Harvested was 41%, well behind 61% last year, but ahead of 35% average.
Sorghum condition rated 5% very poor, 11% poor, 30% fair, 44% good, and 10% excellent. Sorghum mature was 88%, behind 94% last year, but near 85% average. Harvested was 44%, near 46% last year, but ahead of 30% average.
Cotton condition rated 1% very poor, 3% poor, 45% fair, 47% good, and 4% excellent. Cotton bolls opening was 90%, near 87% last year, and ahead of 81% average. Harvested was 3%, near 5% both last year and average.
Sunflowers harvested was 40%, near 36% last year, and ahead of 23% average.
Pasture and Range Report: Pasture and range conditions rated 11% very poor, 20% poor, 34% fair, 33% good, and 2% excellent.
