Cheyenne Wells and the rest of Cheyenne County will see a breezy, sunny Friday followed by a dry, warmer weekend, with highs reaching the mid-70s Saturday and the lower 80s by Tuesday, according to the National Weather Service in Goodland, Kan.

Friday brings sunshine and a high near 65 degrees. Winds start light from the south, then increase to 10 to 15 mph during the morning. Tonight will be mostly clear with a low around 45 and south winds of 10 to 15 mph.

A meteorologist with the National Weather Service forecast office in Goodland, Kan., wrote in Friday’s Area Forecast Discussion that the region can expect “drier conditions and warmer temperatures through the weekend.” The forecaster said a lee trough in eastern Colorado and high pressure over the upper Midwest will tighten the pressure gradient, producing breezy to windy south to southeast winds in parts of the area.

Strongest Friday gusts expected north of Cheyenne County

The discussion said the highest Friday gusts, up to 45 mph, are likely in northeast Colorado along Highway 59 from Yuma to Seibert and west. Gusts in Kansas are forecast to reach up to 30 mph generally north of Interstate 70 and west of Highway 25, with lighter winds elsewhere. The Cheyenne Wells point forecast calls for sustained winds of 10 to 15 mph. Winds should diminish in the early evening.

The Goodland office lists no watches, warnings or advisories for Colorado, and no Red Flag Warning is in effect for Cheyenne County.
