A Day in the Life

By Michelle Wyckoff

Coloring Books.  Described to me by “Cortana”’,  my new guru from Windows 10, as “Books with pictures for children to color in.”  Imagine that!

I can remember my mom and  her sister Ora Lee going to the Woolworth's lunch counter for coffee every morning before I was school age.  While my cousin Karla and I shopped every aisle of the store to find something we could buy for our daily dime, our moms discussed who-knows-what over that cup of coffee that never seemed to run dry.  We shopped for what seemed like hours, only to come up with a different coloring book each  day.  They were delightful little things with puppies, trains, flowers-you name it.  We had a plethora of coloring books to choose from.  We couldn’t have been more worldly had those coloring books been encyclopedias.

Step aside kids!  It’s 2016, and the newest craze in relaxation for adults is the adult coloring book.  I received two of them for Mother’s Day.  These are like no coloring book you’ve ever seen before.  They’re beautiful--very intricate designs that take hours to complete.  When they’re finished, they are veritable works of art.  They look like stained glass. They’re suitable for framing.

There’s just one small problem.  I now find myself feeling the need for relaxation while I’m cleaning the kitchen, doing the laundry, vacuuming…..

May you be living the good life, Kelli Jensen!
