Dense fog blankets 12 states from the Great Lakes to Texas Friday
Dense fog is creating hazardous driving conditions across all or portions of 12 states Friday morning, stretching from northern Michigan to east central Texas.
Overnight, National Weather Service offices issued dense fog advisories expected to remain in effect as late as noon Central Standard Time. The NWS says visibility in many areas could drop as low as ¼ mile, and recommends slower driving speeds along with using headlights on low beam. Changes in visibility could be abrupt.
Some areas may experience freezing fog, further increasing the danger.
All of Minnesota, and most of Wisconsin, Iowa, Kansas, and Oklahoma, have advisories in place, along with smaller portions of Michigan, North Dakota, South Dakota, Missouri, Nebraska, Colorado, and Texas.
In Colorado, Kit Carson, Cheyenne, Kiowa, Bent, and Prowers counties can expect the advisory to remain in effect until 8:00 a.m. MST.
