Four killed, dozens injured in I-25 pileup south of Pueblo amid blinding dust
Four people were killed and at least 29 others were taken to hospitals following a large multi-vehicle crash Tuesday on Interstate 25 south of Pueblo, where heavy winds created near-zero visibility conditions, authorities said.
The crash occurred around 10:00 a.m. on southbound I-25 near milepost 92, just south of Pueblo Boulevard, according to the Colorado State Patrol. Troopers said strong winds were blowing dirt across the roadway, causing “brown out” conditions with little to no visibility for drivers.

Investigators said more than 30 vehicles were involved in the crash, including six semi-trucks. In addition to the fatalities, 29 people were transported to area hospitals. The extent of their injuries has not been released. Ten other people were reported uninjured but remained at the scene.
The identities of the deceased will be released by the Pueblo County Coroner’s Office after next of kin have been notified.
As of Tuesday afternoon, the crash scene remained active and under investigation. Northbound I-25 was closed at milepost 93, and southbound lanes were closed at milepost 94. Authorities said final numbers may change as vehicles are cleared from the scene.
The Colorado State Patrol Vehicular Crimes Unit is leading the investigation. Troopers urged motorists to delay travel in the area until conditions improve and to avoid I-25 near Pueblo if possible. Drivers were advised to check COtrip.org for real-time road and closure updates.
