A grand jury in Washington, D.C., shut down the U.S. Justice Department’s effort to indict six Democratic members of Congress over a video in which they said members of the military and intelligence community should refuse illegal orders from the Trump administration, according to the Associated Press.

U.S. Representative Jason Crow, an Aurora Democrat and former Army ranger who is one of the six Democrats, said in a social media post that the indictment was an attempt to show that any of President Donald Trump’s political enemies will be “crushed.” The Justice Department and the FBI both requested interviews with Crow over his involvement in the video.

“Americans should be furious that Trump and his goons tried to weaponize our justice system again against his political opponents,” Crow said in a statement. “His attempts to intimidate and silence us will always fail.”

In his post, Crow said “the tide is turning and accountability is coming.”

Others in the video were contacted by the Justice Department, including U.S. Senator Elissa Slotkin of Michigan and U.S. Representatives Maggie Goodlander of New Hampshire, Chris Deluzio of Pennsylvania and Chrissy Houlahan of Pennsylvania. The U.S. Department of Defense attempted to downgrade the retirement rank and pay of U.S. Senator Mark Kelly of Arizona for his participation in the video.

The Justice Department under Trump has repeatedly targeted Democrats and Democratic-led state as well as other political enemies of the president.

None of the grand jurors whom federal prosecutors asked to indict Crow and the other Democrats in the video thought the Justice Department met the legal threshold to justify indictment, NBC News reported.

Crow and the others in the video specified that troops have the right to refuse illegal orders — not any order — under the U.S. Constitution and other legal provisions.

“We will continue to fight back against their rising tyranny, along with all Americans of good conscience,” Crow said.
