A head-on collision on Weld County Road 100 east of Wellington on September 12, 2026, killed one driver and left another with serious injuries.

At about 12:29 p.m., a Subaru Outback driven by a 37-year-old Fort Collins woman was eastbound on Weld County Road 100 when it crossed into the westbound lane and struck a Jeep Wrangler driven by a 43-year-old woman from Nunn. The Outback then rotated, slid partially off the south side of the road, came to rest facing southwest, and caught fire. The Wrangler went off the north side of the road, rolled one-half time, struck a fence, and came to rest on its roof facing north.

The driver of the Outback was pronounced deceased at the scene. The driver of the Wrangler was transported by ground to a hospital with serious injuries.

The name of the deceased will be released by the Weld County Coroner once next-of-kin notifications have been made.

The road was temporarily closed for the investigation and has since been reopened.
