The Cheyenne County Sheriff's Office, working with a coalition of local, state, and federal agencies, executed a search warrant at a home in Cheyenne Wells over the weekend, seizing firearms and suspected narcotics and locating several explosive devices, the office announced on social media.

The operation drew an unusually broad mix of agencies to the Eastern Plains community. Deputies were joined by the Kit Carson County SWAT Team, Lincoln County SWAT Team, Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF), Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) and a United States Air Force Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) team.

During the operation, law enforcement personnel located several explosive devices at the home. Specialized teams safely rendered the devices inert and destroyed all explosive materials. The Sheriff's Office said there is no known threat to the public and that the community remains safe.

Investigators also seized firearms, several pounds of suspected marijuana, and various other suspected illegal narcotics. The items were collected as evidence as part of an ongoing criminal investigation.

The Sheriff's Office thanked residents for their continued support and cooperation. “Protecting our community remains our highest priority, and we remain committed to ensuring the safety and security of our communities,” the office said in its statement.

Anyone with information that may assist investigators is encouraged to contact the Cheyenne County Sheriff's Office at 719-767-5634.

The agency is led by Sheriff Michael Buchanan and Undersheriff Kayla Murdock.
