A major reason why leg day is fundamental to your success is that you need to build a strong foundation with your lower body in order to build your upper body. Leg exercises like squats, lunges, leg presses, and leg extensions are all great options that can work your lower body.
In addition to your leg workouts, you should also make sure you include core workouts in your fitness plan. Obtaining a six-pack isn't the only reason to do core workouts--in fact, core workouts need to be a part of your routine because they help with balance and stability.
Another key element every workout routine should have is some form of cardio. While many people feel turned off by the idea of running, there are plenty of other ways you can make sure you get your cardio in, such as riding a bike, playing sports, or swimming. Regardless, you need to incorporate cardio because it strengthens your lungs and heart.
The "big three"
There are also three strength training lifts that should be a part of your workout routine, as well, and can even help shape it. Squats, bench presses, and deadlifts are known as the "big three" lifts and are crucial to building strength.
Your workout routine also has to do with what you do before. Make sure you are stretching and getting a light jog in, instead of jumping right into it. A warmup will get your body ready for a workout and reduce the risks of you sustaining an injury.
