Kiowa County Extension Services hosted a quilting workshop for youth and adults on February 27 and 28. The event was guided by the expertise of Carole Spady and Mary Rhodes. Materials for the workshops were graciously donated by Dorothy Ellicott, a longtime supporter of 4-H and homemaking skills. The success of these workshops was made possible by the dedication and generosity of these wonderful women.

Friday was filled with excitement as four young ladies discovered the joy of sewing. With a little guidance and skill-building, they learned they could create fun and useful items. The group crafted a Christmas tree ornament, a travel tissue pack cover, a pillowcase cover, and a sunglasses case. The workshop provided a hands-on learning experience that everyone thoroughly enjoyed.

Saturday welcomed eleven enthusiastic adult participants eager to expand their quilting skills. In addition to several local attendees, participants traveled from Lamar, Cheyenne Wells, Rocky Ford, and Las Animas. During introductions, attendees shared who had influenced their interest in crafting and sewing. It was inspiring to hear the stories behind how each participant developed her passion for quilting.

Carole and Mary offered excellent guidance throughout the session, sharing helpful tips and techniques while teaching participants how to create a table topper. Everyone left feeling inspired and ready to continue expanding their knowledge and skills.

Special thanks to Carole and Mary for sharing their expertise and providing their sewing machines for the workshops. Carole also dedicated many hours to cutting and preparing materials in advance. Appreciation is also extended to Krystal Eikenberg and Eve Clark for their assistance with setup, cleanup, and support during the workshops. Finally, heartfelt thanks to Dorothy Ellicot for donating the materials and inspiring the idea for these workshops.
