KIOWA COUNTY FIRE PREVENTION DISTRICT

BOARD OF DIRECTORS MEETING

October 16, 2018 at 7:00 p.m.

Jay Specht called the meeting to order at 7:06pm. Those present at the meeting were:

Jay Specht, President

Terry Riley, Vice President

Delton Eikenberg, Director

Zachary Kopasz, Director

Teresa Witte, Treasurer

Karen Jones, Secretary

Also present was Russ Watson.

The Agenda was considered and Russ requested to add a discussion of the school bonfire under the Chief report. Teresa made a motion to approve the Agenda as amended, Delton seconded and it was unanimously approved.

The Minutes from the meeting on 9/25/2018 were considered. Terry Riley noted a minor error in the first paragraph and Karen agreed to make the change to reflect the correct name on a motion made. Zach made a motion to approve the Minutes as amended, Delton seconded the motion and it was unanimously approved.

Fire Chief Report by Russ Watson:

  • County Fire Chief AJ McCracken was out of town and Russ discussed the Eads School decision to do away with the annual bonfire. It seems that students do desire this tradition to continue but the school does not want it on school grounds.
  • It was agreed that, after the first of the year, Zach would represent the Fire District and Russ will represent firefighters and meet with Glenn Smith and the School Board to see what can be done to support having bonfire next year. Motion was made in line with this by Teresa, seconded by Delton and approved unanimously.

Karen noted that this meeting is the official Public Hearing on the 2019 Budget and was properly advertised as such. There were no members of the public in attendance, and Karen has not received any questions from the public regarding the 2019 Budget.

Next Karen gave an update on vehicle titles that have been received, noting that there are still 5 or 6 that we need to file for lost title on, but  we are making progress.

The IGA with Sheridan Lake was discussed since Jerry Weber had emailed a list of items they wanted added into the contract. It was agreed that Jay will ask when their next Board meeting is scheduled, and he and Zach will meet with them to try to come to some mutual agreements.

Teresa reported on the Fire Prevention Week activities which were very successful. She provided 'goodie bags' for children, while AJ McCracken and AJ Bolin brought the fire truck to the school and discussed safety issues with the children.

Shirt ideas were discussed and Zach made a motion to authorize spending up to $1,000 on shirts for volunteers as well as differing shirts for Chief and Officers. Delton seconded the motion and it was passed unanimously.

Karen presented the bills to be paid. Terry made a motion, Teresa seconded and all approved that the bills should be paid as presented.

The next regular meeting will be November 20, 2018.  Since there was no further business, Delton made a motion to adjourn, seconded by Teresa and approved b. Adjourned at 8:00 pm.
