The United States Department of Transportation has awarded $12.475 million to the Colorado Department of Transportation to fix bridges across Colorado’s eastern plains and central mountain areas.

Fourteen bridges, most of which are rated in poor condition, will be updated with concrete or metal culverts to prevent future load restrictions.

The funds are part of $225 million allocated to the Federal Highway Administration’s Competitive Highway Bridge Program. The funds are only available in states with a population density of less than 100 people per square mile.

The bridges selected for updates are in Colorado’s 4th Congressional District, which covers most eastern plains counties, and 5th Congressional District in the central part of the state.
