Obituary – Mary E. Dickey
Mary E. Dickey
August 28, 1929 - November 30, 2020
Mary E. Dickey, age 91, of Cheyenne Wells, went home to be with the Lord November 30, 2020. She was born on August 28, 1929 in Beeler, Kansas, to the late Bert and Blanche (Basom) Prose.
She married Clark Dickey and they moved to Colorado after their son, Danny, was born. They worked hard to raise their family and start their business, Clark Dickey & Sons, while enduring many tough times. Since Mary was born during the time of the Great Depression, she learned to be very frugal and make do with what she had.
In her later years, she enjoyed traveling to many different places in America and other countries with friends, and spending time with her niece, Reva, who was more like a sister to her because they were so close in age.
Mary was a member of the Eastern Star and the United Methodist Church. She was involved in the church choir and held different duties and offices through the years.
She had mail duties at Clark Dickey & Sons and provided meals for the workers at harvest. Clark and Mary, along with their sons, also ran a custom harvesting business for many years, starting in Texas and working their way up to Montana. Mary kept a daily journal her entire life, documenting the many things that happened through the years.
Mary was preceded in death by her husband, Clark; parents, Bert and Blanche; sister, Alice Sherwin; and brothers, Fred, Frank, George and Ralph Prose.
She is survived by her five sons, Danny (Sandra) Dickey of Cheyenne Wells, Curtis (Fonda) Dickey of Fort Smith, Arkansas, Steve (Connie) Dickey of Bayard, Nebraska, Jay (Janice) Dickey of Bolivar, Ohio, and Verl (Tammy) Dickey of Cheyenne Wells. She also leaves behind 16 grandchildren and 26 great grandchildren and six great great grandchildren.
Family funeral services will be held at the United Methodist Church in Cheyenne Wells.
The public is invited to join the family of Mary Dickey at the graveside committal service at the Fairview Cemetery in Cheyenne Wells at 11:00 a.m. Monday, December 7, 2020.
