Obituary – Stephen F. Young
Stephen (Steve) F. Young, 65, passed away peacefully at the Weisbrod Extended Care Unit in Eads, Co. on Friday, July 22, 2016. Cancer took his life.
Steve made his home in Eads for years. He was a fun loving, gentle man with a good heart who enjoyed his private life but still had time for friends who would meet him around town.
He was born in Fairbanks, Alaska on June 14, 1951, the only child of Harold F. and Margaret (Lorenzo) Young. Most of his early life was spent in the wilderness of Alaska. His father worked in Communications (telephone systems) and that is how Steve became involved with Eastern Slope telephone Co. with whom he was employed for years. He retired in 2006.
Steve enlisted in the U.S. Army at an early age and served our country for three years including a tour of duty in Vietnam. We are very grateful for his service to our country.
Steve moved to Eads and later met Carol Diederich. They were married on August 21, 1980 – later divorced in 2006 after almost 26 years of marriage. They still remained friends for all these years.
Of this marriage was born a daughter, Heather Dawn, who has blessed him with four lovely grandchildren whom he loved very much.
Steve was a sun-lover and really enjoyed the beach – Florida was one of his favorite places for fun in the sun. He liked so much going to the lakes near Eads (when there was water) even enjoyed some fishing.
TV and reading were some of his other favorite past times. He had hundreds of other favorite past times. He has hundreds of National Geographics and treasured learning - his motto “Never too old to learn”.
He was preceded in death by his father, Harold F. Young and his mother, Margaret (Lorenzo) Young.
He is survived by his former wife, Carol Young and daughter, Heather Eley (husband) Mike Eley, two grandsons, Joey and Dillon, and two granddaughters Alyssa and Kobi – His extended family; Merlin and Lola Diederich – Steve and Marilyn Diederich and family- Beatle and Sharon Koch and family- Ron and Dawn Diederich and family- Martin and Sheri Fischer and family- and many friends.
