James (Jim) Roy Lofdahl was born August 25, 1941, in Hugo to Roy and Rachel (Cooper) Lofdahl.

He and his brother, Cody, became the men of the house as teenagers when their father passed away unexpectedly. Rachel and the boys pulled together to keep the ranch and family homestead together through very difficult times.

Jim graduated from Karval High School in 1959. He took great pride in the high school football team’s accomplishments and maintained lifelong friendships with teammates.

He served in the Marine Corps during the Vietnam war and was honorably discharged.

In 1973, he married Shirley Ann Thomas, and together they raised three sons. As time marched, on their family grew with grand and great grandchildren.

Jim was a lifelong rancher, an occupation he loved. His best days were spent working with family. He developed relationships with his sons and grandchildren by working with them on the ranch. He was very proud of his family’s work ethic, and he enjoyed sharing his knowledge, wisdom and took time to teach some great life lessons along the way.

Jim passed away at his home October 27, 2025.

Jim is survived by wife of 52 years, Shirley of Karval; sons, Joe (Brenda) Mayo of Haswell, Greg (Cindy) Mayo of Timnath, and John (Cindy) Lofdahl of Kearney, Nebraska; 11 grandchildren; and 17 great grandchildren.

Jim was preceded in death by his parents and one brother.

Graveside funeral services will be held November 1, 2025, at 1:00 p.m. at the Boyero Cemetery in Boyero.
