Joyce Maxine Colvin was born June 8, 1932, to William S. Alderson and Urtle G. (Webb) Alderson at home in Kit Carson.
Joyce attended school at Kit Carson and enjoyed music class. After school, she was a soda jerk at the local drugstore.
She met Bill Colvin and they fell in love and eloped to New Mexico in 1950. They were at several locations near Kit Carson until they were at Rush Creek Ranch south of town. She was a devoted ranch wife and talented seamstress.
They had three children, Becky, Tina and Jeff. Joyce was a wonderful, loving Mom. She also taught herself to play piano and would play a mean boogie woogie on summer afternoons after housework was completed and the kids would dance around the dining room.
They lived north of Kit Carson for a few years at the Collins Ranch. After a short time living in Kit Carson, they bought the Margaret Brown ranch north of town.
Joyce worked outside the home as a waitress, at the post office, and finally as a store clerk at the two local grocery stores. She loved talking to people, from kids to high schoolers on up.
She loved people, and was thrilled when they came back just to visit with her. Joyce doted on her grandkids and great grandkids.
After Bill passed, she and Jeff managed to keep the ranch going until her health took a turn for the worse. She went into Cheyenne Manor in Cheyenne Wells and enjoyed both the staff and other residents.
Joyce passed away April 4, 2026, at the age of 93.
Joyce was preceded in death by her husband, Bill; sister, Rita Holthus; brother, Billy Alderson; nephew, Michael Korrel; and son, Jeff.
