Marjorie May Davis, an 84-year resident of Lamar, Colorado, passed away on November 27, 2016. She was 90 years old. At the time of her death, she was a resident of her adoptive home town -- Eads, Colorado -- where she had lived and received care since January 2014.

Born in Greensburg, Kansas on June 08, 1926, Marjorie’s family soon thereafter moved to Holly, Colorado. When she was two years old, the family moved to Hartman where her father, E.A. Northrup, managed the Hartman Grain Elevator.

Marge and her family moved to Lamar in 1930. She attended the Lincoln Elementary School, Lamar Junior High and Lamar Union High School, graduating in 1945. She took great satisfaction in winning the lead baton twirler position for the Lamar Savages.

Shaped by World War II and the post-war period, Marjorie joined the ranks of women maintaining their homes and communities while friends and family served in the military. Marjorie gained great satisfaction in a job well done whether it was at the local dress store or at the Gamble’s store where she lugged tires, hardware and other items that she was told were too heavy for her to deliver.

Marjorie graduated from Lamar Junior College in 1947. She instilled the importance of education and excellence in her children, and was involved with PTA and other school functions.

Marge married Wade E. Davis on June 12, 1949. They met at a church function where Wade swept her off her feet by regaling her with tales of traveling with the Amerada-Hess seismograph crew. During their marriage, she and Wade traveled together to Hong Kong, Hawaii, several locales in Mexico, and throughout the United States.

After marriage, Marge worked for the Mountain Bell switchboard in Lamar. She loved her work and again brought her competitive spirit to her job. In 1952, Marge left the work force to raise her family. She rose to the challenge of housewife and mother when Gary (1952), Rhonda (1955) and Mark (1959) joined the legions of post-war baby boomers.

Marge was a true Lamar mother. All her children were in Lamar Dudes and Dames square dancing where for several years she acted as set mother. She was a Cub Scout den mother. A baseball mom. A Girl Scout sponsor and Sunday school teacher at the United Methodist Church.

Marge was one of Lamar’s strongest advocates. Without fail, during the many, frequent drives about town with her, she would see the beauty of things that would escape the casual observer, and exclaim, “I think Lamar is the nicest town there is.” In her company, that was true beyond a reasonable doubt, and it was fruitless to argue otherwise.

After Wade’s death in 1996, Marjorie enjoyed her coffee groups and other social gatherings. She and Fern Davis of Lamar knit an abiding friendship based upon their mutual love of their Lord, Jesus Christ.

Marjorie remained at home in her beloved Lamar until January 2014 when she moved to Prairie Pines Assisted Living in Eads, Colorado where she made many friends with the residents and staff. Marge was a delight to the staff, and she and her family returned their appreciation to the outstanding, compassionate staff.

In late October 2015, Marge transferred to Weisbrod Memorial Nursing Center where her kind spirit and love filled the room. Professionalism and genuine care by Weisbrod staff were extended to her without reservation, and with the greatest dignity.  These transitions were made easier for Marge because of the care, love and companionship lavished upon her by Pat Gueswel  of Lamar, along with many others.

Lamar Area Hospice provided assurance, guidance and compassionate, loving care to Marge during her last months. Their untiring work was and continues to be invaluable during her final life transition here on earth.

Marjorie was a member of the First Baptist Church of Lamar, and attended regularly for as long as her health allowed.

Marge is preceded in death by her husband, Wade; her father and mother, E.A. and Neva Northrup; sister Dorothy (Jack) Guihen and brother R.E. (Ruth) Northrup.

She is survived by her brother Charles (Marilyn) Northrup of Greely, Colorado; children Gary (Cheryl) Davis of Eads, Colorado, Rhonda (Michael) Singer of Sterling, Colorado and Mark (Dottie) Davis of Lamar, Colorado; grandchildren Rachel Davis of Denver, Colorado, Ian (Abby) Davis of Highlands Ranch, Colorado, and Elizabeth Davis of Durango, Colorado.

She is also survived by grandchildren Douglas Michael (Laura) Singer of Hastings, Nebraska, Emily Singer of Sterling, Colorado, Keith (Claudia) Singer of Cambridge, Idaho; Alanna Singer and Louisa Singer of Sterling, Colorado; Christopher Davis of Los Angeles, California, Stephanie (Mike) Nolan of Denver, Colorado, and Geoffrey (Leah) Davis of Longmont, Colorado. Great-grandchildren are Miciah Davis, Edmund, Lavinia, Rosamund and Rafe and Karina Joy Singer. She is also survived by many beloved nieces and nephews.

Funeral services for Marjorie May Davis were held on Friday December 2, 2016 at the First Baptist Church in Lamar.  Burial followed in the Fairmount Cemetery in Lamar.  Friends and family can sign the guestbook and register online condolences at www.brownfuneraldirectors.com.  Visitation and funeral services were entrusted to the care of the Brown Funeral Home in Eads.
