Nancy R. MacKenzie, age 73, of North Mankato, Minnesota, July 20, 2024, after a short illness.

Nancy was born March 29, 1951 in La Junta, to Donald and Dorothy (VanSchooten) Rose.

She graduated from Eads High School in 1969. Nancy received a BA degree from the University of Colorado in 1973, a MA degree from Kansas State University in 1976, and a Doctor of Arts from Drake University in Des Moines, Iowa.

Nancy was married to Raymond MacKenzie, and they were later divorced in 1987.

Nancy was a professor in the Department of English at Minnesota State University for 34 years where she taught Technical Communications.

In 1994, she published the textbook, Science and Technology Today.

Throughout her life, Nancy was very involved with a church family. Most recently, she was a member of Hilltop United Methodist Church, and was involved in women’s weekly bible study.

Nancy enjoyed international travel, and was a member of her beloved mystery book club for over 20 years. Having grown up on a farm, Nancy was a lover of horses. Nancy was steadfast in her love of her two children and six grandchildren, and will be a lasting influence in all of their lives.

Nancy is survived by her son, Philip MacKenzie of Cape Girardeau, Missouri; daughter, Fiona (Dan) Swanson of St. Peter, Minnesota; grandsons, Liam, Brody, and Theo Swanson, and William MacKenzie; honorary grandchildren, Laela and Verena Murray; sister, Shirley Rose (Leon Johnson) of Chandler, Arizon; and brother, Nathan Rose of Las Animas.

She was preceded in death by her parents.

Funeral Service were held July 25, 2024, at Northview-North Mankato Mortuary. A private family burial was held in Glenwood Cemetery in Mankato, Minnesota.

Memorials are preferred to Hilltop United Methodist Church, Mankato.

Arrangements were under the direction of Mankato Mortuary.
