Norman E. Dorenkamp
A Funeral Mass for long time Holly, Colorado resident, Norman Dorenkamp will be held at 10:00 a.m. with Rosary beginning at 9:30 a.m. on Saturday, September 10, 2016 at St. Frances of Rome Catholic Church in Holly. Interment will take place at the Holly Cemetery.
Norman Eugene Dorenkamp was born on October 14, 1942 in Holly, Colorado to Joseph and Amelia (Boehner) Dorenkamp. He passed away on September 4, 2016 at his home at the age of 73.
Norman graduated from Holly High School in 1960. He was united in marriage to Jean Kalma on February 4, 1961. This union was blessed with three children, Judy, Joann and Janet.
Norman enjoyed his faith, family, farming, ranching, and his cattle and horses. He was an active member of the St. Frances of Rome Catholic Church serving on the Parish Counsel and as an usher for many years. Norman was a member of Professional Rodeo Cowboys Association and won numerous awards in steer wrestling. He obtained his pilot’s license and loved flying his plane.
Serving his community in many ways; he was a member of the Holly Saddle Club, and served on the Southeast Colorado Co-op Board, Fire and Ambulance Board, Board of Holly Community Corporation, Lower Arkansas Water Management Association board, achieved a Soil Conservation Award, as well as hosted the Southeast Colorado Bull Test Association at the family feedlot for numerous years.
Norman is survived by his wife, Jean Dorenkamp of the family home; daughters, Judy Dorenkamp of Holly, CO and Janet (Forrest) Lundy of Bristol, CO; granddaughters, Kristen (Claudio) De La Peña of Garden City, KS and Taylor (Vincent) Cappetti of Holly, CO; grandsons, Ryan (Kim) Hammit of Poulsbo, WA, Casey (fiancé Trisha) Hammit of Coolidge, KS, and Dylan (fiancé Jordan) Hammit of Garden City, KS; 6 great grandchildren Lillian, Nathan, Connor, Scarlett, Samuel and Michael; brother, Fred (Norma) Dorenkamp of Holly, CO; sister, Agnes (Jim) Harper of Holly, CO; son-in-law, Donnie Hammit of Holly, CO; numerous nieces and nephews; many other relatives and a host of friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Joseph and Amelia Dorenkamp; daughter, Joann Hammit; brothers, Bernard and Donald Dorenkamp; and sisters, Josephine Parker and Cecelia Sherwood.
