  • A skunk from Kiowa County recently tested positive for rabies at the Colorado Department of Public Health and Environment lab.
  • Wild Horse Roundup- Curtis Schrimp: Wind! Glad I didn’t have any of my good chains hanging out or it might have snapped some links off.
  • Commissioners Corner- Dick Scott: Let’s see now… the county pays the salaries, but the state sets the county commissioners’ salaries, and the state collects taxes on those salaries. Why, those clever rascals…

  • A fire drill at Eads High School has caused a controversy within the town, and revealed a problem with the school’s fire alarm system.
  • The Kiowa County Commissioners are considering adopting a resolution making it mandatory to contact either the Kiowa County Fire Department or the Sheriff’s Office before conducting a control burn.

40 Years Ago - April 13, 1984

  • Nursing Home News- LaVerne Fischer: The Bookmobile was here and we are once again well stocked up on reading material. We also thank those who save magazines for us.

50 Years Ago - April 12, 1974

  • Betty Crow was the All-Events winner in Class B of the 22 Annual Colorado Women’s Bowling Association Tournament.
  • Kirk Barlow, owner of Barlow Aerial Spraying, was forced down in his spray plane because of a whirlwind. Kirk was not injured, but the plane suffered damage around $2,000.

75 Years Ago - April, 1949

  • Brandon: Dale Ferman and Carl Beuttenmuller made one car out of two. They took the motor from a 1938 Chevy onto the frame of a 1937 Chevy.

100 Years Ago - April, 1924

  • Galetea: George Fredericks was treated to a peanut fight in honor of his 15th birthday. After the battle, the ammunition was carefully gathered and eaten by the assailants.
  • Dr. Mitchell & Dr. Davis will remove tonsils next Saturday at Dr. Mitchell’s office.
