15 Years Ago - August 28, 2009

  • The Kiowa County Fair Parade judging site has been changed to the Weisbrod Hospital and Nursing Home. The change was made so the Nursing Home residents would be able to see and enjoy the parade.
  • Kit Carson school doesn’t have enough players for a football team this year.

25 Years Ago - August 27, 1999

  • Extension Agent- George Ellicott: Several 4-H members’ exhibits that were chosen as project unit champions went on to be selected as unit champions at the Colorado State Fair.
  • Upcoming Events: Mrs. Eva Anyx will be celebrating her 100th birthday at the community building August 29.
  • Gail Crawford, Monti, Brian Miller, and Justin McLoud had the great thrill to see Tiger Woods and other celebrity golfers at the Castle Pines Golf Course.

40 Years Ago - August 31, 1984

  • The ever-popular Kiowa County Free Fair and Rodeo will open next Thursday. The gala event will be held at the Kiowa County Fairgrounds in Eads. Carnival, PRCA rodeo, and horse racing are some of the activities scheduled.

50 Years Ago - August 30, 1974

  • The Haswell grocery store, owned by Leonard Price, was reported to have been burglarized August 26 according to County Sheriff Gene Kelley.
  • The full Senate approved $2.3 million for reconstruction and restoration of Bent’s Fort.

75 Years Ago - August 26, 1949

  • Since Missouri Pacific modernized its locomotive power, the coal chute in Eads will soon be pulled down.

100 Years Ago - 1924

  • The Press has been so infernally busy, no time to gather any locals. So in order to give the news, will state the following: rained Monday. Need more. Fair coming. Collections poor. Cool nights. Tourist going home. Election nearer. School teachers coming back.
