15 Years Ago - August 13, 2010

  • USDA Update-Rod Johnson: It appears our computer software is working, BUT we now have to reload all offers manually which require name, address, Social Security number, and other data that was to happen automatically.
  • Students from across the nation attended the Washington Leadership Conference activity of the Future Farmers of America organization, included members of the Eads FFA.
  • East End Events- Sharon Scott: Ferocious wind hit Towner. When we went out to survey the damage, one of our little houses we decorate for Christmas was scattered all over the center circle.

25 Years Ago - August 18, 2000

  • The Maseredjian family from Los Angeles was treated to a festive community potluck in Sheridan Lake. The family selected Sheridan Lake as their vacation destination by throwing a dart at the map of United States.
  • Wild Horse Roundup- Curtis Schrimp: Gary McNeely and Tony and Ernie Hammer each received a saddle for having the best time in cattle-penning at the fair.

40 Years Ago - August 16, 1985

  • New stop signs will be installed at the northwest and southeast corners of 10th and Luther streets; northwest and southeast corner 10th and Slater streets; southwest corner of 9th and Luther streets; and northwest and southwest corner of 14th and Rittgers streets.
  • Eight cowboys and one cowgirl from Kiowa County qualified for the 1985 Little Britches Rodeo final.

50 Years Ago - August 15, 1975

  • Improvements at the Kiowa County Fairgrounds include replacing the wooden railing around the race track with iron railing.
  • Due to the recent cattle mutilations in Colorado, the Kiowa County Sheriff department is asking anyone sighting a helicopter or suspicious vehicle to contact the Sheriff’s department or the State Patrol at Lamar.

75 Years Ago - August 18,1950

  • Section III Ordinance No. 78 Town of Eads: It is unlawful to have, keep, maintain, or use any outdoor privy, cesspool, or excavation used for the disposal of sewage in the Town of Eads.
