  • TJ Watts and Wade Kreutzer won Team Roping Championship in USTRC Southern Colorado Classic held in Pueblo. The win qualified them in the national finals of Team Roping in Oklahoma City.

  • Students at Eads school have been collecting money and items of comfort for the victims of the September 11 tragedy.

  • The Plainview marching band competed in the Holly Gateway Parade taking home the first-place honor.
  • The Colorado wheat crop added more than $405 million to the state economy in 1985, and nearly 75 percent of that came from sales to overseas markets.

50 Years Ago - October 1, 1976

  • Heavy rains this past week caused Big Sandy became a swift-moving river as it pushed fences, coyotes, debris, and even roads out of its southward path.
  • Kiowa County residents can receive free vaccinations against the swine flu.
  • The Plainview Hawks 8-man football team will take on undefeated Manzanola team after overwhelming lickings from Kit Carson and Cheraw. Coach McCorkle is looking for good performance because the team is physically healthy again.

75 Years Ago - October 5, 1951

  • Pikes Peak Natural Gas Company of Goodland, Kansas, has the franchise distribution system in the town of Eads. Crews arrived to get started on the natural gas system.

100 Years Ago - October 8, 1926

  • A box supper for the benefit of Eads School will be given at the Community Building.
  • L.C.K Items: Priefert’s barn burned Saturday morning. There was high wind but the other buildings were saved.
  • A dance will follow the picture show Monday night. Music by the Eads boys, and a big time is assured.
  • Mr. Colebourn, the honey man of Wiley, was in Eads with his pet monkey amusing the children
