- The Kiowa County Fairboard is proud to announce the creation of the first annual, Family 4thof July Bash.
- The Econo Lodge hotel located at 609 E. 15thSt is now open. Formerly a Best Western, Country Manor hotel, underwent renovations that included new carpet, paint, and wall coverings throughout the hotel.

- Much of the Commissioners’ meeting centered around a discussion of Kiowa County roads and state transportation policy.
- Towner Tales-Ann Harkness: No sooner was the cleanup competed than another windstorm occurred. This storm brought very little or no rain but caused many holiday cook-outs to be put on hold until the dirt quit blowing.

July 6, 1979
- The golden grains of wheat started flowing in Kiowa County June 27 when the first truckload arrived at the Boulware Grain Inc. in Sheridan Lake.
- Volunteer firemen battled several hours June 26 to extinguish a lumber fire on a Missouri Pacific train flatcar west of Eads.
- Sheridan Lake Ripples-Mrs. Oren White: Mr. & Mrs. Thaine Ewing have started their retirements in the wheat fields of southeast Colorado. They are the sister and brother-in-law of Mrs. Hobart Hallock, and helping the Hallock family with their harvest.

- Haswell Happenings: High wind and dust the past week has caused considerable damage to crops.
- Chivington News: The army term G.I. Joe had a real meaning 25 years ago for two men named Joe. “G.I. Joe” Wenger from Brandon, Florida, visited buddy “G.I. Joe” Marble and his wife, Mary.

- About dusk, local officials were scouring the community for a soldier who escaped from the local jail.
- Kiowa County is the sixth county in Colorado to attain its assigned quota in the Fifth War Loan, and on the figures available now show total of $149,487.50 being 107% of the quota assigned.

July 4, 1919
- The Goff Hotel owned and managed for a good many years by Mrs. C.C. Wolever, was sold to Mr. & Mrs. Ed M. Low, who will take possession at once. They have not definitely decided yet on what plan the hotel will be run but will continue to take roomers, and later may serve meals.
- John Drown has bought out J.I. Norris’ interest in the Shoe Shop and will devote his entire time to this business.
