- FEMA announced federal snow emergency funds have been made available to help Cheyenne, Huerfano and Kiowa counties to cover specific cost related to severe winter storms of December 28-31.
- About Town- Melissa Peterson & Doris Lessenden: Electricity was off several days all over the county. Fallen poles evidently cause most of the problems.

- The phone is ringing off the hook at Kit Carson’s newest pizza shop. Picadilly Pizza & Subs is now open at Hill Top Texaco.
- Juanita and George Lucero have acquired The Flower Shoppe and combined with their existing Eads business, formerly called Kaleidoscope.
- Our Place Deli is making changes. Now Our Place is serving pizza and has opened the back room for folks who would enjoy playing pool, arcade games or darts.

- Guiberson Products, a new oil well supply firm in Eads, is moving its materials and office from its present location in north Eads to a larger building with more storage and parking to south Eads.
- The 1970 Census of Housing counted 801 housing units in Kiowa County and 539 households had at least one television set.
