  • A skunk from Kiowa County recently tested positive for rabies at the Colorado Department of Public Health and Environment laboratory.

  • A Memorandum of Understanding between Kiowa County and the Eads Board of Trustees has been reached. The town will hire and directly pay a person who will be under the direction of the Sheriff.

  • The Kiowa County Nursing Service office will continue to be open, even though there will not be a nurse in the office.

June 15, 1973

  • Al Weick of Lamar caught caught Blue Catfish at Nee Noshe on a 10 pound test line. One weighed in at 12 pounds. The other, caught several hours later, was a 15 pounder.
  • Kiowa County was 1 of 61 of the state’s 63 counties reporting a retail sales increase for the 1st quarter of 1973.
  • Doris Lessenden has been chosen as an Outstanding Secondary Educator of America for 1973

June, 1948

  • Electric storms destroyed some equipment, including pumping motors, of the town of Eads. 
  • At the baseball game in Eads, George Wagner struck out 14 men and hit a home run, breaking a 9-9 tie in eighth inning and winning his own ball game.

100 Years Ago

June, 1923

  • Mr. & Mrs. Ed Barber of Brandon are putting up a new windmill and adding some improvements to their house.
  • The pupils of Eads school won 10 Palmer Penmanship certificates during the past school year.
